At Vision Source of Hugo, we believe patients in our community should have access to the same level of advanced eye care technology often found in larger metropolitan areas. Our office uses modern diagnostic equipment to help evaluate eye health, detect disease earlier, monitor changes over time, and provide more complete care close to home.

Our Optos retinal imaging system allows us to capture a wide view of the retina in a single image. This helps Dr. Edwards evaluate the back of the eye, including the retina, blood vessels, and optic nerve. Retinal imaging is useful for monitoring conditions such as diabetes, macular degeneration, retinal changes, and other eye health concerns. The images can also be saved and compared over time.

Optical Coherence Tomography, often called OCT, is like a detailed “mini CAT scan” of the retina and optic nerve. It allows us to see layers of tissue beneath the surface and helps with the diagnosis and monitoring of glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, swelling, and other retinal conditions. OCT gives us information that cannot be seen with a routine eye exam alone.

The RETeval device allows us to perform electroretinography, or ERG testing, in a more convenient handheld format. Dr. Edwards often explains this to patients by comparing it to an EKG for the eye: just as an EKG helps evaluate heart function, ERG testing helps evaluate retinal function. This technology can provide objective information about how well the retina is working.

Our office has a YAG laser, which may be used for certain post-cataract surgery patients who develop clouding of the capsule behind the lens implant. This condition is sometimes called a “secondary cataract.” When appropriate, a YAG capsulotomy can help restore clearer vision without requiring patients to travel out of town for that procedure.

The Marco OPD-Scan III helps provide a more detailed analysis of the eye’s optical system. It combines several measurements, including corneal shape, refractive error, pupil size, and wavefront analysis. This information can help with glasses prescriptions, contact lens evaluations, cataract-related measurements, and understanding certain visual complaints.
Our goal is simple: provide state-of-the-art optometric care in a local, personal setting. Patients should not have to leave Hugo to receive thorough, modern eye care.
